You'll find a charming lake called Halcyon Lake near Stissing Pond; you can hit the slopes at Catamount close at hand. If you come at the right time of year, Roeliff Jansen Kill River offers some good whitewater; don't leave Stissing Pond without first going for a hike along the Northrop Trail. Whohoo, so many entertaining things in one place! Stissing Pond rules! Near Stissing Pond you hit upon a golf course called       Carvel Country Club, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Stissing Pond; Indian Trail is a nice local trail. Camping is available at Lake Taghkanic, and Ancram Hotel is a great spot to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Stissing Pond you will meet lots of folks from close by Hudson; there's glorious hiking along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Dry warm beds await you at Jenny's Bar B Q Restaurant, and whitewater paddling                  is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Esopus Creek. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Oleana Family Camp Grounds since you're here at Stissing Pond, and a great panorama of beautiful Little Stissing Mountain is available. Through the warm months, highs usually are in the 80's at Stissing Pond. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Stissing Pond are in the 10's.
