You can catch a glimpse of Black Rock from Sphagnum Pond, and don't leave Sphagnum Pond without first going for a hike along the Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Go for a hike on the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and hey, Gotta ski right? Sterling Forest is a glorious place to do that. Sphagnum Pond gets a large amount of water; of all the months in a year May       is the one with the most rain, and the driest of the months is February. An afternoon playing golf at Central Valley Golf Club is always a pleasure, and a great nearby hotel is Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites West Point-Ft Montgomery, Ny. Near Sphagnum Pond you stumble on Black Rock Hollow which is a brilliant place to check out; going for a hike on the Stillwell Lake Trail is always a pleasant adventure. You could also stop at Sutherland Pond while                  you're here at Sphagnum Pond; it's nearby, and if you need a place to stay Econo Lodge West Point is a wonderful choice. Roe Pond is in close proximity, and a tremendous place to camp here at Sphagnum Pond is Beaver Pond. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Sphagnum Pond. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's typically in the 60's. Throughout the winter the highs are generally in the 30's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Sphagnum Pond temperatures fall to the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Sebago Cabins Harriman while you're here at Sphagnum Pond, and Popolopen Creek has a great whitewater paddling spot nearby. But wait, there's more to do next to Sphagnum Pond.
