After a long day outdoors Sharon Motor Lodge is a pleasant place to spend a night or two, and Riga Lake Dam has great water scenery. You'll meet a lot of folks from Hudson here, and not far from Riga Lake you'll locate Grass Pond which is a wonderful lake. Yeah, come here to Riga Lake for a great time. There are other locations here than Riga Lake, for example Riga Lake, and why not a little side tour to Decker Brook.
An afternoon playing golf at Undermountain

Golf Course is always a diversion; there are tremendous places to discover along the Indian Trail. Dry warm beds await you at Days Inn Great Barrington, and a great place for whitewater paddling is Housatonic River. The warmest time of the year at Riga Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Riga Lake.

Why not camp at Taconic State Park Rudd Pond if you're here at Riga Lake, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Ski Butternut is pretty near. This lake is so wonderful. Camp Waubeeka is a good local campground; you can run the rapids of Bash Bish Brook. So many exciting things to do here at Riga Lake, too great to be true. From Riga Lake you obtain a great vista of Thorpe Mountain, and going for a hike on the Northrop Trail is always a perfect adventure.
From a rainfall point of view Riga Lake is a rather common location; May is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest of the months is February. This lake is so wonderful. The snow is good at Catamount, and you can go for a hike on the Elbow Trail.

Hilltop Pond
11 miles away
Hilltop Pond is a beautiful private pond. It's owned by the home owner on the top of the hill to the west and other adjoining land owners have pond rights. It's quite shallow, so it will always be in need of constant cleaning. The 42 acre pond is home to loads of wildlife and is the prime souce of water flowing into Macedonia State Park.

An interesting fact: The dam, rebuilt in the early 90's is made up of concrete blocks, each weighing over a ton. Environmental regulations wouldn't allow pouring cement into forms, so the large number of blocks were layed in place, held in place only by their individaul mass.

Jimmy Walker, the mayor of NYC would visit Hilltop Lodge, with his buddies. Hilltop Lodge was located on the west side of Weber Road where the road takes a bend well above about mid point in the length of the pond. The lodge burned to the ground in the 50's. There was no structure on the property from then until 1984, when the home to the north was constructed....
