Do stop by Pigeon Lake while you're in this part of New York. Whohoo, so many cool things in one place! The Adirondack Mountains rocks! Get yourself into a kayak and hit Moose River - South Branch, and lakes are such calm places, why not visit Haymarsh Ponds. Near Pigeon Lake you hit upon the Big Deer Pond Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail; there are other locations here than Pigeon Lake, for example Lower Sister Lake. | | year, Indian River offers some brilliant whitewater, and Pigeon Lake is splendid enough to spend more than a day at, Tioga Point State Campground is a splendid local campground. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is always beautiful. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Pigeon Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Browns Tract Pond State Campground is a good spot for that; going for a hike on the Salmon Lake Trail is always a great adventure. | |

There's just no way anyone can get bored here at Pigeon Lake. The Norridge Trail is a great hiking trail close to Pigeon Lake, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; McCauley Mountain is relatively near. Pigeon Lake is a wet
place that gets a large amount of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is August while February is typically the driest month. High temperatures at Pigeon Lake through the warmest time of the year are in the 70's. Summer nighttime
lows drop down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Pigeon Lake sink into the 0's. You just can't envision the amount of outdoors enjoyable
stuff the Adirondack Mountains has to offer. After a long day outdoors Knights Inn Little Falls is a nice place to spend a night or two.

Terror Lake
 | ...er. The Carthage road went up the Beaver river drainage. Two brothers got lost up in the ridges above Terror Lake. Almost died. They found the lake and named it after their nights of terror. Guys used to hunt there in the fly in days. The last last guy to go there was a drainage ditch runner. Calls himself PH. Take his advice. It's a long way in and you MUST know the woods and be a woodsman. There are plenty of blow downs to go through overland. The way to go is via the end of Twitchell Lk. The Sisters who own the old Teahouse at the end of Twitchell are nice old girls. I saved their nephew one cold November night. They bought me some good whiskey. Anyway that's the way to get into Terror Lk. Follow the old trail into the South Branch Beaver River drainage. Head northeast for a good mile and keep the high ground to your right shoulder. Keep walking about 4 miles and make sure the big ridge is over your right shoulder. You can't miss the lake. There is an old ghost trail marked with blue soap can lids at the base of the ridge. Twitchell Lake
 | 1 PHOTO On 7/7/2009... 85 years ago my mother who lived in Brooklyn spent her vacations at Lake Twitchell,she said once she went to the adirondacks she never went back to the catskills. I got up this morning and thought of her conversations about the lake and decided to look it up, I hope it's still as beautiful as she described it so many years ago,I still have her snap shots.... |
