A quick trip to Roaring Brook next to Lake Ossi is a glorious idea, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Thunder Ridge is relatively near. Going for a hike along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region; a perfect close by hotel is Le Chambord. This lake is so wonderful. Just can't get enough of Lake Ossi. Whitewater paddling is great on Popolopen Creek, and why not camp at Clarence Fahnestock State Park if you're here at Lake Ossi. Country Club at Lake Mc Gregory is a wonderful way to kill some time; in the event that you don't mind getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Wappinger Creek. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at
Lake Ossi you will meet lots of people from nearby Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown. Lakes are nice; Lockwood Pond is a lake that's right next door to Lake Ossi. Lake Ossi is a rather wet place regularly with much rain; most of the rain falls all through May, and January is the month with the least moisture.

 | ...house on chestnut ridge rd.back in the late sixties ,and every Christmas the people of the surrounding lk. There were none on the east side of the lake at the time. Well we would collect our Christmas trees around fifty or so and dig them into the ice about forty ft apart and make two rows . Then we would all set a time and light em,, and we would skate , fish ,whatever the lines of trees ran from the n.west dock to the east..the clam bakes were held at the other lk..haven just up the stream that ran along my house..After the dam broke from lk haven the water flooded down into our house..What a flood..seems after that we sold the house to a fireman ,,and then our course by accident the house burnt down ,,and I thought fireman were supposed to put out fires not start em .hello to all that still prevail on chestnut ridge. yea I also went to school with Henry Winkler.. And back then we used to trick or treat all the way down to route six..camp sycamore well I still have my green card with the red paper wonder if its still good..the camp was but a lake with a cottage or two..and a cool a... |
Secor Lake

The land was sold a while ago and now has a housing development on it....Lillian Wald had a camp on secor lake .Camp Henry.i am fortune enough to have been born on the block where Lillian started the henry street settlement. I am a 49yr who spent 10 summers of my life on lake secor 67-76..Actually I live in the settlement for 3 1/2 yrs. Amazing!... |
