A lake close by is Long Pond, and there are nice places to explore along the Oregon Trail. Mud Pond gets a typical amount of yearly precipitation; the wettest month of the year is commonly August, that's the one that rains the most while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Be careful coming to the Adirondack Mountains, you might not ever wanna go back home again. A great site to camp here at       Mud Pond is Smoke Rise Campsites, and don't leave Mud Pond without first going for a hike along the Dividing Ridge Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Why not camp at Camp Dippikill Office while you're here at Mud Pond, and hey, Gotta ski right? Gore Mountain is a good place to do that. This lake is one of the great places here in the Adirondack Mountains. And if that's not sufficient, there's a load more to do right next door to Mud Pond. Balm of Gilead                  Brook has a splendid whitewater paddling spot nearby, needless to say you could also visit Clear Pond while you're here; it's not far at all. This lake is so wonderful. Moxham Mountain is a peak you can make out from Mud Pond. That right there is plenty of entertaining stuff already but it goes on, the Adirondack Mountains has it all. Go for a hike on the Elk Lake Marcy Trail; why not a little side tour to Raymond Brook. At Mud Pond through the long summer days highs are in the 70's, and the overnight is quite chillier of course, usually in the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are commonly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Mud Pond are in the 0's.
