Do stop by Mud Pond while you're in this part of New York. The annual rainfall here at Mud Pond is about average; all through August this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. This lake is so wonderful. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is always beautiful. This lake is so wonderful. Stay the night at Craig Harbor Canyon, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Mill Creek. You get a

| | glorious panorama of Bald Peak from Mud Pond; North Pond is a nearby lake that you could explore. That right there is a load of enjoyable stuff already but it goes on, the Adirondack Mountains has it all. If you need a place to stay Ticonderoga - Super 8 Motel is a great choice; you can have a great hiking adventure along the Bear Pond Trail. usually in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 20's, and night lows at Mud Pond during the winter mostly sink into the 0's. Be careful coming to the Adirondack Mountains, you might not ever want to go home again.
If the weather is great here at Mud Pond, you can go for a hike along the Lost Pond Trail, and dry warm beds await you at Basin Harbor Club. While you're here at Mud Pond you can take a hike along the Clear Pond Trail, and there's
whitewater on Boquet River for all you adrenaline people. What a place this is for outdoors people. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Mud Pond has to offer, you can camp at Camp Normandie, and if you get bored of Mud Pond you could also stop by close by Bartlett Pond.

Oxshoe Pond
 | 17 miles away What a terrific place to spend the night or even a few days. I went there on my first hike ever, and I am going back this week. It is about a 3-4 hour hike into the trail, but man is it worth it. If you are lucky enough to be the only group there, you will find a lean-2 and fire pit all to yourself. Also, there is a very secluded pond(oxshoe pond) in the same valley, that is just spectacular. A row boat is on hand to use for free for anyone at the site. No cell service with Verizon there, but then again, who needs that? lol again though, an absolutely amazing place to spend a few nights.... |
