It's always fun to stop by Mill Pond. This lake is so wonderful. A swamp like Bear Swamp in the neighborhood of Mill Pond has lots of interesting things to see, and enjoy a round of golf at Centennial Golf Club of New York. Old Drovers Inn is a good site to get some rest, and nearby you locate the Appalachian National Scenic Trail which is a good hiking trail. This lake is so wonderful. There's so much to do here at Mill Pond that you need to camp here for a while,

 | ...back in the late sixties ,and every Christmas the people of the surrounding lk. There were none on the east side of the lake at the time. Well we would collect our Christmas trees around fifty or so and dig them into the ice about forty ft apart and make two rows . Then we would all set a time and light em,, and we would skate , fish ,whatever the lines of trees ran from the n.west dock to the east..the clam bakes were held at the other lk..haven just up the stream that ran along my house..After the dam broke from lk haven the water flooded down into our house..What a flood..seems after that we sold the house to a fireman ,,and then our course by accident the house burnt down ,,and I thought fireman were supposed to put out fires not start em .hello to all that still prevail on chestnut ridge. yea I also went to school with Henry Winkler.. And back then we used to trick or treat all the way down to route six..camp sycamore well I still have my green card with the red paper wonder if its still good..the camp was but a lake with a cottage or two..and a cool as heck dirt road..I went to... |

Hilltop Pond
 | 19 miles away Hilltop Pond is a beautiful private pond. It's owned by the home owner on the top of the hill to the west and other adjoining land owners have pond rights. It's quite shallow, so it will always be in need of constant cleaning. The 42 acre pond is home to loads of wildlife and is the prime souce of water flowing into Macedonia State Park.
An interesting fact: The dam, rebuilt in the early 90's is made up of concrete blocks, each weighing over a ton. Environmental regulations wouldn't allow pouring cement into forms, so the large number of blocks were layed in place, held in place only by their individaul mass.
Jimmy Walker, the mayor of NYC would visit Hilltop Lodge, with his buddies. Hilltop Lodge was located on the west side of Weber Road where the road takes a bend well above about mid point in the length of the pond. The lodge burned to the ground in the 50's. There was no structure on the property from then until 1984, when the home to the north was constructed.... |
