If you are in this part of New York make sure to pay a visit to Merwin Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Kinderhook Creek, and people from Hudson love to come here. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the amusing stuff at Merwin Lake. There are some brilliant whitewater spots on Hannacrois Creek, and you can stay the night at Cedar Grove Campground. If the weather is great here at Merwin Lake, you can go for a hike along the Northrop Trail, and a nice nearby hotel is Red Carpet Inn Coxsackie. This lake is so wonderful. cold winter nights at Merwin Lake are in the 0's. Kinderhook Creek
 | There is a lot to run on the Kinderhook above Valatie. In fact, it can be run all the way from above E. Nassau. At E. Nassau, a nice boulder garden class II-III proceeds, with water attractions all the way to Valatie. Getting out at Valatie is difficult but necessary before the dam....There are two impassable waterfalls 60 plus feet high about two miles south of the Valatie water fall. There is no viable way around these falls without climbing down steep cliffs. We stopped about a half mile above the two stuyvesant falls. My understanding is there are old mill dams before you get to stockport. Somebody gave you really bad dangerous info.... |
