If you want a pleasant time in the great outdoors, just come on down to McKenzie Pond. For you golfers we recommend close by Saranac Lake Golf Club, and a wonderful close by hotel is THE HOTEL SARANAC. There are splendid places to look at along the Indian Pass Trail; Ausable River - West Branch is a great whitewater spot nearby. McKenzie Pond is a pretty wet place commonly with lots of precipitation; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain,

| | and February is the month with the least moisture. Through the summertime months highs here at McKenzie Pond get into the 70's, and the night is fairly cooler of course, mostly in the 50's. Pond Trail is always a splendid adventure. If you have a thing about the outdoors you'll have a thing about it here in the Adirondack Mountains. Be careful coming to McKenzie Pond, you might not ever want to go home again. The
skiing at Whiteface Mountain is splendid, and if you've had enough of McKenzie Pond, Wolf Pond is close by. Little Ray Brook is a great location to have a look at; a pleasant panorama of stunning Baker Mountain is available. This
lake is so wonderful. In the event that you don't mind getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Saranac River - North Branch, and there are plenty of people from Malone here. Go for a hike on the Schwartz Trail, and
Moody Bay is in close proximity and always delightful to explore. This lake is one of the great places here in the Adirondack Mountains. That right there is a heap of exciting stuff already but it goes on, the Adirondack Mountains
has it all. A perfect place to camp here at McKenzie Pond is Donaldson George A and Sons, and if you need a location to stay Best Western Mountain Lake Inn is a great choice.

Silver Lake Mountain Trail

Silver lake mountain trail head is found on Silver lake Road, which intersects with NY Route 3 about 23 miles west of Plattsburgh [near Clayburg]. Go south on Silver Lake Road for about 10 miles, find the marked trailhead on the left side of the road. This is a short somewhat steep hike with a beautiful view from the top. Well worth the effort....Silver Lake Mt. is a glorious hike. Its not too difficult for the amateur hikers and has a few trails off to the side that are a bit more difficult and fun for the experienced hikers. Its a great place for a family or business day retreat and provides phenomenal views of the North Countries natural beauty. Enjoy the trail but remember to keep it clean and well maintained. A little effort can go a long way...... |
