If you need a place to stay Woodlake Inn is a good choice, and needless to say Elbow Brook flows through this vicinity. Lots of rainfall falls at Loon Lake; August is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is February. And if that's not enough there's a lot more entertaining stuff to do in the Adirondack Mountains. If you came for an overnight stay Pioneer Village is a splendid place to camp; a lake nearby is Bass Lake.
This lake is so wonderful.

At Loon Lake you can catch a glimpse of Catamount, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Salmon River. All through the summertime months at Loon Lake temperatures are typically in the 70's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's; overnight lows in the 0's for Loon Lake. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Schwartz Trail, and while you're
here you ought to check out Horse Head Point.
This lake is so wonderful. The McKenzie Pond Trail offers hiking at its best, and Donaldson George A and Sons is a great campground nearby. Whiteface Mountain has fine slopes and a friendly staff; Loon Lake is right by the Silver Lake Mountain Trail. This lake is located in the wonderful Adirondack Mountains.
No way I can stop, cause I'm havin' a brilliant time here at Loon Lake. After a long day outdoors THE HOTEL SARANAC is a perfect site to spend a night or two, of course you could also visit Mountain Pond if you're here; it's not far at all. Just can't get enough of the Adirondack Mountains. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Mount Pisgah, and there are some magnificent whitewater spots on Saranac River - North Branch. Now, you may assume that's a load but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here at Loon Lake.

Silver Lake Mountain Trail

Please include specific directions to the trail head.  Silver lake mountain trail head is found on Silver lake Road, which intersects with NY Route 3 about 23 miles west of Plattsburgh [near Clayburg]. Go south on Silver Lake Road for about 10 miles, find the marked trailhead on the left side of the road.  This is a short somewhat steep hike with a beautiful view from the top.  Well worth the effort....Silver Lake Mt. is a glorious hike. Its not too difficult for the amateur hikers and has a few trails off to the side that are a bit more difficult and fun for the experienced hikers. Its a great place for a family or business day retreat and provides phenomenal views of the North Countries natural beauty. Enjoy the trail but remember to keep it clean and well maintained. With the greatest vertical drop in the east at 3,166 feet, very few resorts do this better than Whiteface. With long runs over three separate, yet connected areas, you'll spend maximum time on the snow and minimum time on the lifts.
There's also Little Whiteface with almost 2,500 vertical feet. And don't forget Kids Kampus which has separate lifts, lodge, ticketing, rentals, snowsports school and child care. This is an outstanding experience for young beginners in a low-key, safe environment.
A new area opens during 2008/2009 season. Lookout Mountain looms over the horizon covered with pristine snow. For centuries this is how it has been. Until now. This season, Lookout Mountain will be yours for the first time. This means miles of new trail. Literally undiscovered country for you to fall in love with. Whiteface has another face, so Lookout.
