Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Raquette River, and Long Lake Reservoir is a perfect spot to visit for more than one day, Whispering       woods is a perfect spot to camp nearby. And if that's not enough there's plenty more fun things to do in the Adirondack Mountains. Do stop by Shaw Pond near Long Lake Reservoir, it's a picturesque lake, and it's a great idea to check out Sandy Creek. Hiking along the Northville Lake Placid Trail is pleasant fun, and there are some wonderful whitewater spots on Rock River. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is always beautiful. For the duration of the winter the highs are usually in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Long Lake Reservoir are in the 0's.
