     At John Pond you can distinguish Hosner Mountain. There's so much to do here at John Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Clarence Fahnestock State Park is a glorious place for that. This lake is so wonderful. Paddling on Popolopen Creek is so much fun. This lake is so wonderful. Branton Woods Golf Club is a good golf course close by; dry warm beds await you at Le Chambord. Do check out Sagamore Lake near John Pond, it's a pretty lake; Wappinger Creek  
   has a tremendous whitewater paddling spot nearby.
There are splendid spots to explore along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and you can stay the night at Sylvan Lake Beach Park. And if you're still looking for more outdoors entertaining things just keep reading. Gem Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Thunder Ridge is pretty near. A great deal of rainfall falls at John Pond; the month with most of the
 
               rain is May; February on the other hand is the driest.
At John Pond through the long summer days highs are in the 80's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are mostly in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to John Pond. Getting to Black Pond Brook from John Pond is simple; Inn at Arbor Ridge and Cnf Ctr is a splendid site to get some rest.

...rd.back in the late sixties ,and every Christmas the people of the surrounding lk. There were none on the east side of the lake at the time. Well we would collect our Christmas trees around fifty or so and dig them into the ice about forty ft apart and make two rows . Then we would all set a time and light em,, and we would skate , fish ,whatever the lines of trees ran from the n.west dock to the east..the clam bakes were held at the other lk..haven just up the stream that ran along my house..After the dam broke from lk haven the water flooded down into our house..What a flood..seems after that we sold the house to a fireman ,,and then our course by accident the house burnt down ,,and I thought fireman were supposed to put out fires not start em .hello to all that still prevail on chestnut ridge. yea I also went to school with Henry Winkler.. And back then we used to trick or treat all the way down to route six..camp sycamore well I still have my green card with the red paper wonder if its still good..the camp was but a lake with a cottage or two..and a cool as heck dirt road..I went...

Secor Lake
Do you have any pictures of camp henry?  My father went there in the 1920's.  The land was sold a while ago and now has a housing development on it....Lillian Wald had a camp on secor lake .Camp Henry.i am fortune enough to have been born on the block where Lillian started the henry street settlement. I am a 49yr who spent 10 summers of my life on lake secor 67-76..Actually I live in the settlement for 3 1/2 yrs. Amazing!...

Lounsbury Pond is in Blue Mountain Reservation and not really that close to the Appalachian Trail or Beaver Pond. Sterling Forest is about 45 minutes away. You cannot camp at Blue Mountain Reservation. Stillwater Lake is in Putnam County and the trail near it is unmarked and not named....
