Have a fine hiking adventure along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail; Edith Macy Conference Center is a nice site to get some rest. This lake is so wonderful. Hardscrabble Lake is a place with many visitors from Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown; if the weather is splendid, you can go for a hike along the Suffern-Bear Mountain Trail. Now, you may believe that's lots but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here at Hardscrabble Lake. You'll find a beautiful lake called Pleasant

| | Lake near Hardscrabble Lake, and Pleasantville Country Club is a good golf course nearby. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Comfort Inn & Suites is a delightful place to spend a night or two. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Hardscrabble Lake has to offer, you can camp at Camp Echo Lake. is typically the driest month. There's so much to do here at Hardscrabble Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Camp Discovery is a great place for that, and a pretty lake like Kinderogen Lake is a great spot to stop at. Don't
forget to take a brilliant little spree to Nanny Hagen Brook, and in case you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Popolopen Creek. The top of Beech Hill is easily observed from Hardscrabble
Lake, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Stillwell Lake Trail. Summertime highs at Hardscrabble Lake generally tend to be in the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The cold days of the
wintertime come with highs in the 30's with temperatures at Hardscrabble Lake dipping down into the 10's all through winter nights.

 | 14 miles away ...e three story pink house on chestnut ridge rd.back in the late sixties ,and every Christmas the people of the surrounding lk. There were none on the east side of the lake at the time. Well we would collect our Christmas trees around fifty or so and dig them into the ice about forty ft apart and make two rows . Then we would all set a time and light em,, and we would skate , fish ,whatever the lines of trees ran from the n.west dock to the east..the clam bakes were held at the other lk..haven just up the stream that ran along my house..After the dam broke from lk haven the water flooded down into our house..What a flood..seems after that we sold the house to a fireman ,,and then our course by accident the house burnt down ,,and I thought fireman were supposed to put out fires not start em .hello to all that still prevail on chestnut ridge. yea I also went to school with Henry Winkler..
