There is a tremendous hiking trail in the vicinity of Dell Pond called the Schwartz Trail; if you get bored of Dell Pond you could also explore close by Twin Ponds. During the long summer days at Dell Pond highs are typically in the 70's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. skiing at Whiteface Mountain. Really good skiing awaits you at Mount Pisgah, and in the event that you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Saranac River. On a great day at Dell Pond you
can take a hike along the Silver Lake Mountain Trail, and if the weather is lovely, you acquire a fine vista of Norton Peak from Dell Pond. Silver Lake Mountain Trail

Silver lake mountain trail head is found on Silver lake Road, which intersects with NY Route 3 about 23 miles west of Plattsburgh [near Clayburg]. Go south on Silver Lake Road for about 10 miles, find the marked trailhead on the left side of the road. This is a short somewhat steep hike with a beautiful view from the top. Well worth the effort....Silver Lake Mt. is a glorious hike. Its not too difficult for the amateur hikers and has a few trails off to the side that are a bit more difficult and fun for the experienced hikers. Its a great place for a family or business day retreat and provides phenomenal views of the North Countries natural beauty. Enjoy the trail but remember to keep it clean and well maintained. A little effort can go a long way...... |
