brilliant local ski area, and there's perfect hiking along the Shorey Short Cut. Stay the night at Adirondak Loj, and you can go for a hike on the Van Hoevenberg Trail. Whispering Pines Campground is a good campground nearby;
Calamity Pond is a fine lake nearby. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Lake of the Clouds Tear without first going for a hike along the Hopkins Trail, and if you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on John's Brook.
