A visit to Chain Ponds is always a good idea. Chain Ponds is a pretty wet place usually with lots of rainfall; August is when you get the most rain here while February is usually the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. OLD Forge Camping Resort is a nice campground nearby, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Norridge Trail. Any time is a great time at Chain Ponds if you go for the outdoors. If you came for an overnight stay Browns Tract Pond State
Campground is a magnificent place to camp, and while you're here you can play some golf at Inlet Golf Club.
Andys Creek flows through this region, unsurprisingly you could also check out Queer Lake since you're here; it's not far at all. A splendid close by hotel is Knights Inn Little Falls, and hiking along the Big Deer Pond Trail is good fun. For the period of the summer months here at Chain Ponds, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 70's. Once

the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's, and nighttime lows in the 0's for Chain Ponds.
Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Adirondack Mountains. Take a hike on the Salmon Lake Trail, and in the event that you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Moose River - South Branch. Indian River has a good whitewater paddling spot nearby. This lake is so wonderful. The top of Cascade Mountain is easily made out from Chain Ponds, and a lake nearby is Mays Pond.
Chain Ponds is located in the Adirondack Mountains. But wait, there's more exciting things to do in the Adirondack Mountains. Gotta ski! McCauley Mountain is a delightful location to do that, and why not go to East Bay also while you're here.

Terror Lake
... is dead to fish. It was named in the early 19th century before stillwater. The Carthage road went up the Beaver river drainage. Two brothers got lost up in the ridges above Terror Lake. Almost died. They found the lake and named it after their nights of terror. Guys used to hunt there in the fly in days. The last last guy to go there was a drainage ditch runner. Calls himself PH. Take his advice. It's a long way in and you MUST know the woods and be a woodsman. There are plenty of blow downs to go through overland. The way to go is via the end of Twitchell Lk. The Sisters who own the old Teahouse at the end of Twitchell are nice old girls. I saved their nephew one cold November night. They bought me some good whiskey. Anyway that's the way to get into Terror Lk. Follow the old trail into the South Branch Beaver River drainage. Head northeast for a good mile and keep the high ground to your right shoulder. Keep walking about 4 miles and make sure the big ridge is over your right shoulder. You can't miss the lake. There is an old ghost trail marked with blue soap can lids at the base ...

Twitchell Lake

On 7/7/2009...
85 years ago my mother who lived in Brooklyn spent her vacations at Lake Twitchell, she said once she went to the adirondacks she never went back to the catskills. I got up this morning and thought of her conversations about the lake and decided to look it up, I hope it's still as beautiful as she described it so many years ago,I still have her snap shots....
