This lake is so wonderful. The slopes of Mount Pisgah are so inviting noone can resist, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Silver Lake Mountain Trail. Nearby lakes? Sure, Bass Lake is right next door to Catamount Pond; Donaldson George A and Sons is a tremendous campground nearby. A tour to Horse Head Point right next door to Catamount Pond is always a wonderful idea; the Schwartz Trail offers hiking at its best. From Catamount Pond you get a glorious vista of Catamount, and there's splendid hiking along the McKenzie Pond Trail. Just can't get enough of Catamount Pond. warm beds await you at THE HOTEL SARANAC. So much amusing stuff to do at Catamount Pond, so little time. This lake is so wonderful. If you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Saranac River -
North Branch, and if you need a site to stay Woodlake Inn is a nice choice. For the duration of the summer at Catamount Pond temperatures are generally in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. For the
duration of the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Catamount Pond. Man, is there lots of cool stuff to do in the Adirondack Mountains. Salmon River has a magnificent whitewater
paddling spot close by, and Pioneer Village is a delightful local campground. Elbow Brook is one of the streams close by that might be worth a visit, and if you've had enough of Catamount Pond, Elbow Ponds is nearby.

Silver lake mountain trail head is found on Silver lake Road, which intersects with NY Route 3 about 23 miles west of Plattsburgh [near Clayburg]. Go south on Silver Lake Road for about 10 miles, find the marked trailhead on the left side of the road. This is a short somewhat steep hike with a beautiful view from the top. Well worth the effort....Silver Lake Mt. is a glorious hike. Its not too difficult for the amateur hikers and has a few trails off to the side that are a bit more difficult and fun for the experienced hikers. Its a great place for a family or business day retreat and provides phenomenal views of the North Countries natural beauty. Enjoy the trail but remember to keep it clean and well maintained.
