If only every site had this much outdoors fun things, what a great world it would be. You can never get enough of the good skiing at Thunder Ridge, and Tenmile has a good whitewater paddling spot nearby. The sight of Brewster Hill from Brewster Pond is pretty; a fine site | |

Golf Club of New York is close by. This lake is so wonderful. There are other places here than Brewster Pond, for example Bog Brook Reservoir; if you're dropping by from Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, you won't be the only one.
There's some flowing water close by, Tonetta Brook is a stream you can explore during your stay, and paddling on Ten Mile River is so much fun. Ella Fohs Camp Pond
 | 17 miles away I was at the camp from 1963-1969. It shaped my childhood. My mother was there when she was a kid too. I found her name carved into one of the bunks on the rafters: Sydell Freiman 1949! Shame it's not used anymore for innercity poor kids, like we were. Ellen Knebel...I'm sad to hear that the camp itself is not there any more. I worked there in 69-73...I began working on ''the senior side'' and we livrf in ''the mansion'' for one summer. ...There was a house at the middle of the camp itself where the camp director lived. Is it still there??...(2008) I know the family that owns this beautiful property. A few years ago, I volunteered as a companion (weekly visits over a 2 year period) for his 90 year old mother, Millicent. The owner's name is Kenneth... |

Hilltop Pond
 | 19 miles away Hilltop Pond is a beautiful private pond. It's owned by the home owner on the top of the hill to the west and other adjoining land owners have pond rights. It's quite shallow, so it will always be in need of constant cleaning. The 42 acre pond is home to loads of wildlife and is the prime souce of water flowing into Macedonia State Park.
An interesting fact: The dam, rebuilt in the early 90's is made up of concrete blocks, each weighing over a ton. Environmental regulations wouldn't allow pouring cement into forms, so the large number of blocks were layed in place, held in place only by their individaul mass.
Jimmy Walker, the mayor of NYC would visit Hilltop Lodge, with his buddies. Hilltop Lodge was located on the west side of Weber Road where the road takes a bend well above about mid point in the length of the pond. The lodge burned to the ground in the 50's. There was no structure on the property from then until 1984, when the home to the north was constructed.... |
