     Lakes? Sure, North Pond is nearby; if you like skiing, you're in luck; McCauley Mountain is quite near. This lake is so wonderful. If you don’t have a problem getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Moose River; going for a hike on the Stone Dam Trail is always a wonderful adventure. Cold Brook Campsites is a fine local campground, and delightful hiking is available along the Forty Mountain Trail. Why not camp at Singing waters Campground if you're  
   here at Big Otter Lake, and don't forget to take a nice little trip to Lost Creek.
This lake is so wonderful. Moose River - Middle Branch is a delightful whitewater spot in the neighborhood of Big Otter Lake, and the skiing at Snow Ridge is delightful. But wait, there's more to do near Big Otter Lake. There are other sites here than Big Otter Lake, for example West Pond, and you can go for a hike on the Twin Lakes Trail.

85 years ago my mother who lived in Brooklyn spent her vacations at Lake Twitchell,she said once she went to the adirondacks she never went back to the catskills. I got up this morning and thought of her conversations about the lake and decided to look it up, I hope it's still as beautiful as she described it so many years ago,I still have her snap shots....

Forty Mountain Trail

Since 2001, it has become a bushwhack and can be close to impossible in the spring and summer to find the blazes that indicate the trail. Wet seasons can make the slopes tretcherous, and the trail dissapears at the base of the mountain. One must plot a compass course or use a GPS. The summit offers limited views of the Black River area of the southwestern Adirondacks. Watch for black bears, as they are numerous in this region....
