    Many people like to go to Big Burnt Lake. This lake is so wonderful. There are splendid places to look at along the Big Deer Pond Trail, and you're in all probability into lakes, Loon Lake is one of those close by. For the period of the days of summer at Big Burnt Lake temperatures are frequently in the 70's, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 20's, and night lows during the wintertime for Big  
   Burnt Lake tend to be in the 0's. This spot, the Adirondack Mountains, has so much outdoors fun things. Gun Harbor Brook is near Big Burnt Lake and is always a bliss to take a look at, and do schedule some time to stop by Gun Harbor if you have a chance.
There is a tremendous hiking trail right next door to Big Burnt Lake called the Salmon Lake Trail, and folks from Ogdensburg-Massena love to come here. So many cool things to do in the Adirondack Mountains,
 
               not sufficient time. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Beaver River, and a tremendous site to camp here at Big Burnt Lake is Nicks Lake Campgrounds. Big Burnt Lake generally gets a lot of rain; August is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month is February.
Big Burnt Lake is located in the Adirondack Mountains. This lake is so wonderful. There are some brilliant whitewater spots on Oswegatchie River - East Branch. Looking for something in close proximity to Big Burnt Lake? Trout Pond is in close proximity, and a day on the slopes of McCauley Mountain is just what you need.
That right there is a heap already, but it goes on; Big Burnt Lake has it all. Going for a hike on the Norridge Trail is always a pleasant adventure, and camping at OLD Forge Camping Resort is always a wonderful experience.

85 years ago my mother who lived in Brooklyn spent her vacations at Lake Twitchell,she said once she went to the adirondacks she never went back to the catskills. I got up this morning and thought of her conversations about the lake and decided to look it up, I hope it's still as beautiful as she described it so many years ago,I still have her snap shots....

Terror Lake
...hallow bays and a deep center between its two lobs. It is dead to fish. It was named in the early 19th century before stillwater. The Carthage road went up the Beaver river drainage. Two brothers got lost up in the ridges above Terror Lake. Almost died. They found the lake and named it after their nights of terror. Guys used to hunt there in the fly in days. The last last guy to go there was a drainage ditch runner. Calls himself PH. Take his advice. It's a long way in and you MUST know the woods and be a woodsman. There are plenty of blow downs to go through overland. The way to go is via the end of Twitchell Lk. The Sisters who own the old Teahouse at the end of Twitchell are nice old girls. I saved their nephew one cold November night. They bought me some good whiskey. Anyway that's the way to get into Terror Lk. Follow the old trail into the South Branch Beaver River drainage. Head northeast for a good mile and keep the high ground to your right shoulder. Keep walking about 4 miles and make sure the big ridge is over your right shoulder. You can't miss the lake.
