While you're here at Barrett Pond you can take a hike along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail; you're sure to run into some great people from Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown here. On a lovely day you obtain a sight of Hitchcock Hill from Barrett Pond; if you come at the right time of year, Wappinger Creek offers some good whitewater. Lockwood Pond is a nearby lake that you could explore, and Camp Kiwi is a nice campground nearby. If you need a place

| | to stay Le Chambord is a perfect choice; swing by Bailey Brook it's a good place to explore. This lake is so wonderful. Inn at Arbor Ridge and Cnf Ctr is a great site to get some rest, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Tenmile. Barrett Pond sees pretty high levels of rain; most of the rain falls during May while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. All through the warm days of summer | |

highs here at Barrett Pond get into the 80's; the nighttime is somewhat chillier of course, typically in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's; throughout the dark hours in the winter at Barrett Pond temperatures
fall to the 10's. Be careful coming to Barrett Pond, you might not ever want to go home again. If you came for an overnight stay Clarence Fahnestock State Park is a pleasant site to camp; Mahopac Golf Club is a pleasant golf course
nearby. This lake is so wonderful. If you get bored of Barrett Pond, you could also explore nearby China Pond, and if you like skiing, you're in luck; Thunder Ridge is relatively near.

Dixon Lake
 | ...Christmas the people of the surrounding lk. There were none on the east side of the lake at the time. Well we would collect our Christmas trees around fifty or so and dig them into the ice about forty ft apart and make two rows . Then we would all set a time and light em,, and we would skate , fish ,whatever the lines of trees ran from the n.west dock to the east..the clam bakes were held at the other lk..haven just up the stream that ran along my house..After the dam broke from lk haven the water flooded down into our house..What a flood..seems after that we sold the house to a fireman ,,and then our course by accident the house burnt down ,,and I thought fireman were supposed to put out fires not start em .hello to all that still prevail on chestnut ridge. yea I also went to school with Henry Winkler.. And back then we used to trick or treat all the way down to route six..camp sycamore well I still have my green card with the red paper wonder if its still good..the camp was but a lake with a cottage or two..and a cool as heck dirt road..I went to Austin rd elem.my age now is forty ... |

The land was sold a while ago and now has a housing development on it....Lillian Wald had a camp on secor lake .Camp Henry.i am fortune enough to have been born on the block where Lillian started the henry street settlement. I am a 49yr who spent 10 summers of my life on lake secor 67-76..Actually I live in the settlement for 3 1/2 yrs. Amazing!... |
