Barnes Lake is a nice lake to visit. Throughout the summer months highs here at Barnes Lake reach the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 20's, and overnight lows at Barnes Lake during the wintertime regularly dip into the 0's. This lake is so wonderful. At Barnes Lake you always meet someone from Utica-Rome; camping is available at Moose River Camp Grounds. Looking

| | for something next to Barnes Lake? Buck Lake is close at hand, and the Stone Dam Trail offers hiking at its best. This lake is so wonderful. Barnes Lake is right by the Twin Lakes Trail, and paddling on Moose River is so much fun. After a long day outdoors Wingate By Wyndham Rome is a good place to spend a night or two. just a very short distance away. Barnes Lake is a good site of normal precipitation; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest of the months is February. Any time is a delightful time at Barnes Lake
if you like the outdoors. Gotta ski! Woods Valley is a glorious spot to do that, and if you want to play some golf, you're in luck because Woodgate Pines Golf Club is nearby. Cropsey Creek flows through this vicinity, and glide down
the rapids of Black River in a kayak. If you came for an overnight stay Cold Brook Campsites is a great place to camp, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Forty Mountain Trail.

Forty Mountain Trail
 | 15 miles away Since 2001, it has become a bushwhack and can be close to impossible in the spring and summer to find the blazes that indicate the trail. Wet seasons can make the slopes tretcherous, and the trail dissapears at the base of the mountain. One must plot a compass course or use a GPS. The summit offers limited views of the Black River area of the southwestern Adirondacks. Watch for black bears, as they are numerous in this region.... |
