Going for a hike along the Pacific Crest Trail - section 13 will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region; you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Heavenly since you're here. This lake is so wonderful. A golf course right next door to Mud Lake is Carson Valley Golf Course, and you can have a glorious hiking adventure along the Charity Valley       Trail. While you're here at Mud Lake, you could also stop by pretty Stevens Lake, and whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then, we recommend Carson River - East Fork. Mud Lake is a beautiful lake in the Northern Sierra Nevada. And if that's not sufficient, there's plenty more to do in close proximity to Mud Lake. Hiking along the Burnside Lake Trail is tremendous fun, and while you're here, you might as well check out Long Valley.                  This lake is so wonderful. A great nearby hotel is David Walley's Resort, and if you're going to from Gardnerville Ranchos, you won't be the only one. Yeah, come up here to the Northern Sierra Nevada for a great time. After a long day outdoors Carson Valley Inn is a wonderful place to spend a night or two, and camping is available at Washoe Tribe Campground. Mud Lake gets very little precipitation; January is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is July. Skiing at Kirkwood is one of those things you just should do. Do stop by Indian Creek Reservoir near Mud Lake, it's a charming lake; why not camp at Indian Creek Campground since you're here at Mud Lake. For the duration of the warmest time of the year highs here at Mud Lake get into the 70's, and the night is a little cooler of course, typically in the 40's.
