Round Lake
 | 12 miles away This small ''round'' lake is the beginning of the ''Upper Truckee River'' which flows into Lake Tahoe, and the outflow is known simply as the ''Truckee River'' which ends up flowing into Pyramid Lake, in Nevada. Compared to further south in the Sierra Nevada range the local scenery is not as majestic but is indeed pretty, easy to hike and unlike very high altitude locations, offers better campsites. The lake contains one species of trout, the Lahontan Cutthroat. Back in the early 1970's I managed to catch and release a couple dozen specimens weighing between one and two pounds. The fish are classically well-marked and the flesh is a pronounced pink. I have found over several trips that the lake fish are harder to catch than the fish in the outflow canyon. ... |
