Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by nearby Center Reservoir, and you can stay the night at Virgin Valley Campground. Buck Lake is pretty dried up mostly; May is when you get the most rain here, and July meanwhile is the driest month. Don't leave Buck Lake without first paying a visit to Jacobs Waterhole.
