The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Angel Fire, and a pleasant nearby hotel is Econo Lodge Eagle Nest. And if that's not enough there's heaps more entertaining stuff to do in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. The top of Larkspur Peak is easily observed from Waterbird Lake, and Waterbird Lake is not the only location nearby, Bear Lake is a nearby       lake. This lake is so wonderful. This lake is one of the great places here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. During the long summer days at Waterbird Lake highs are ordinarily in the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and overnight lows at Waterbird Lake throughout the wintertime frequently fall into the 0's. Just can't get enough of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Waterbird                  Lake is right by the Burnt Ridge Trail, and Waterbird Lake is good enough to spend more than a day at, Italianos Campground is a good local campground. Have a splendid hiking adventure along the Twining Blue Lake Trail; Red River is a very popular ski area in the vicinity. There are plenty of people from Taos here at Waterbird Lake, and if you came to camp Twining Campground is a brilliant location to do that. All the outdoors exciting stuff close to Waterbird Lake will keep you coming back time and again. After a long day outdoors Angel Fire Resort is a great place to spend a night or two, and do take a hike on the Lost Lake Trail.
