    If you are traveling by, why not stop by Smith Waterhole. At Smith Waterhole you don’t see much rainfall; most of the rain falls throughout September, and March is the month with the least moisture. Carlsbad Caverns National Park is one of the destinations near Smith Waterhole that are great to go to, and a lake close by is Boy D S Waterhole. This lake is so wonderful. A nice nearby hotel is Comfort Inn Carlsbad, and Aaa whites City RV Park is a glorious local  
   campground.
Near Smith Waterhole you hit upon the Double Trail which is a great hiking trail. Not sufficient hours in a day to enjoy this site. People from Carlsbad-Artesia love to come to Smith Waterhole; close by Kuykendall Draw is a perfect site to go. If you need a location to stay Whites City Resort is a tremendous choice; Carlsbad Rv Park & Campground is a tremendous campground nearby.
The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to
 
               Smith Waterhole with overnight lows in the 60's. Highs throughout the wintertime are regularly in the 50's; through the dark hours in the wintertime at Smith Waterhole temperatures dip to the 30's. Take a little spree to Crooked Creek while you're here at Smith Waterhole; Middle Fork Waterhole is a nearby lake that you could take a look at.

If you wish to access this lake you will need a vehicle with a high ground clearance as it is all dirt road to get to it and impossible to get to after a heavy rain. Not worth the effort, the fish are not edible due to DDT contamination....
