If you like lakes and you're in this part of New Mexico you can check out Shield Lake. Go for a hike on the Summit Trail; dry warm beds await you at Ruidoso Downs-Days Inn. There are other sites here than Shield Lake, for example Antelope Lake; a fine site to camp here at Shield Lake is Baca Campground. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Capitan Peak Trail is always a delightful adventure, and Copeland Canyon is another pleasant spot to check

The winter brings highs down to the 50's with temperatures at Shield Lake dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights.
