Why not stop by Red Water Pond if you're passing through these parts. This lake is so wonderful. Best Western Red Rock Inn is a great spot to get some rest; during your tour here you'll meet some people from Gallup for sure. There's so much to do here at Red Water Pond that you need to camp here for a while, Quaking Aspen Campground is a nice location for that; don’t forget to stop at Hard Ground Flats since you're here at Red Water Pond. All through the winter highs are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Red Water Pond are in the 10's. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Red Water Pond has to offer, you can camp at Chaparral Mobile Inn, and if you need a spot to stay La Quinta Inn & Suites Gallup is a glorious choice. Around Red Water Pond you don’t get a lot of rain; August is the wettest month with most rain, and June is the month with the least moisture.
