Pollywog Pond is regularly a rather dried out spot; most of the rain falls during August; June is when it's the driest. A short trip to Chupadera Spring is always worthwhile, and a perfect nearby hotel is Best Western Jicarilla Inn. This lake is so wonderful. Rio Chama is a good whitewater spot close to Pollywog Pond, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop at nearby Dry Lake.       There is a nice hiking trail close to Pollywog Pond called the San Pedro Parks Trail, and not far from Pollywog Pond you'll find Laguna Simon which is a striking lake.
