Pioneer Lake is a great lake in an area with lots of outdoors fun all around. This lake is one of the great places here in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Pioneer Lake gets very little precipitation; through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is February. Adobe and Stars Inn is a pleasant location to get some rest; get your pulse rate up on the brilliant whitewater of Rio Grande. This lake is so wonderful.

| | Enjoy a round of golf at Red Eagle Golf Course not far from Pioneer Lake, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Lost Lake Trail. At Pioneer Lake you can see Black Mountain, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Red River. All year is a magnificent time in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains if you go for the outdoors. You'll need more than a day to look at everything Pioneer Lake has to offer, you can camp at Fawn Lakes Campground, | |

and there's glorious hiking along the Number 3 Lift Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Red River; there are other sites here than Pioneer Lake, for example
Fawn Lakes. Just can't get enough of Pioneer Lake. Summertime highs at Pioneer Lake frequently tend to be in the 80's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 40's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 30's, and nighttime
lows at Pioneer Lake during the winter mostly descend into the 0's. But wait, there's more to do in close proximity to Pioneer Lake. Pioneer Lake is a perfect spot to visit for more than one day, Elephant Rock Campground is a
perfect spot to camp nearby; the Twining Blue Lake Trail offers hiking at its best. Here at Pioneer Lake you'll in all probability meet some folks from Taos, and the snow is tremendous at Ski Rio. So many enjoyable things to do here
in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, too brilliant to be true. If you need a site to stay Best Western River's Edge is a good choice. Lakes? Sure, Goose Lake is around here.

Latir Lakes
 | 28 years ago as a 16 year/old Eagle Scout I was introduced to Latir. The pristine, grandure and soulful solitude of the Latir inspired me greatly. Last year I finally returned to Latir with my wife and 4 daughters. We found greatfully NOTHING had changed!!!! We spent 6 days exploring, fishing, and bonding. One entire afternoon was spent at Lake #7 shouting echoes to each other. Skip the plastic commericial touristy stuff...go to Latir!!!!... |
Taos
 | 16 miles away ...scape into the ancient cultures of the Southwest or explore the side of a vast mountain that has been opened up for skiing and snowboarding, but not tamed. Taos combines the warm ambiance of a small European-style village nestled at the base of a great mountain, a superb ski school and an ambiance founded on the classic pleasures of skiing and snowboarding. Taos blends its high elevation and arid desert climate to provide skiers with the perfect conditions; light dry snow and bright sunshine. From the
famed steeps to gentle bowls, Taos' terrain appeals to the super-expert and the beginner alike. With a peak elevation of 11,819 feet, a base of 9,207 feet and 1,294 acres of ski trails, Taos offers varied and challenging terrain to delight skiers of all abilities. One of Taos' most enduring ski traditions is the steep skiing off The Ridge. This requires a hike of anywhere from 10 minutes to one hour to get to these ''extreme, double-diamond'' runs. The reward is the best ''steep and deep'' skiing in America and a chance to experience off piste skiing. While many
resorts have traded... |
