There is a delightful hiking trail near La Mesa Lake called the Tom Mays Unit Trail; you'll meet a lot of people from Las Cruces here. On a wonderful day at La Mesa Lake you can take a hike along the Resler Drive Walk and Bike Trail, and dry warm beds await you at Comfort Suites Las Cruces.
