    Do stop by Meadows Reservoir while you're in this part of New Mexico. So much exciting stuff to do in the Mesa Verde, not sufficient time. You get a brilliant vista of Ute Dome from Meadows Reservoir, and why not camp at Mom and Pop RV Park since you're here at Meadows Reservoir. La Quinta Inn Farmington is a perfect spot to get some rest, and paddling on Animas River is so much fun. This place, Meadows Reservoir, it absolutely has so much outdoors entertaining  
   stuff. A magnificent nearby hotel is The Region Inn. Lakes? Sure, East Lake is in the vicinity.
The Narrows is a good place to visit nearby; a wonderful spot to camp here at Meadows Reservoir is River Grove RV Park. This lake is so wonderful. There are other locations here than Meadows Reservoir, for example Fourmile Reservoir, and a pleasant visit to Foxtail Flats is a great way to spend an afternoon. Around Meadows Reservoir you don’t get a lot of precipitation;
 
               the month with most of the rain is August; June on the other hand is the driest.
This lake is one of the great places here in the Mesa Verde. This lake is so wonderful. If the weather is great here at Meadows Reservoir, you can go for a hike along the Wheeler Trail. There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Mesa Verde. Whitewater paddling is magnificent on San Juan River, and Meadows Reservoir is not far at all from Farmington.
During the summertime months at Meadows Reservoir temperatures are commonly in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 30's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Meadows Reservoir temperatures plunge to the 10's.

Mormon Reservoir

The Mormon Reservoir is located on Hay gulch stream before it flows into La Plata River. In the late 1920's the Mormon Church in Utah paid to have the damn across Hay Gulch constructed for the Mormon village of Red Mesa. Water is stored in the reservoir until it is needed for farmers at Red Mesa. The water is released into the La Plata River and is measured for agricultural purposes during the drier part of the summer. Young men from Red Mesa built frame buildings on the rocky and wooded west hillside going into Hay Gulch. Until the damn was completed the workers stayed in these dwellings. All of the work on the earthen damn was done by hand and horse drawn equipment. Dynamite was used to blast boulders used on the damn to hold the water in place until needed. The impounded water becomes undrinkable by early summer when it has a strong odor. Water dogs (salamanders) and tadpoles become prolific as the summer advances.
