This lake is located in the wonderful Sangre De Cristo Mountains. It's a fine idea to stop by Maverick Creek, it's close to Gravel Pit Lakes, and Gravel Pit Lakes is good enough to spend more than a day at, Cathedral Rock Campground is a good local campground. Hiking along the Lost Lake Trail is nice fun, and if you need a place to stay Econo Lodge Eagle Nest is a good choice. At Gravel Pit Lakes you don’t see much rainfall; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month.
