If you are in Rio Arriba county it's always a good idea to stop by El Vado Reservoir. El Vado Reservoir is located in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. Yep, outdoors cool stuff to do are really plentiful here at El Vado Reservoir. | | nearby is Thompson Lake, and dry warm beds await you at Branding Iron Motel. Through the summer months at El Vado Reservoir highs are mostly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 40's. During the winter this place gets highs in the 30's, and nighttime lows during the wintertime for El Vado Reservoir tend to be in the 0's. covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Rio Chama. El Vado Reservoir gets very little rain; August is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest of the months is June. All the outdoors entertaining
things in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains will keep you coming back time and again. If you came to camp Herron Store is a delightful place to do that. There's some flowing water nearby, Cooper Arroyo is a stream you can pop by while
here, and hiking is a popular thing to do around El Vado Reservoir; Hart Trail is a wonderful local trail. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. If you get bored of El Vado Reservoir, you could also check out nearby Heron Reservoir; Rio Chama has a good whitewater paddling spot close by.
