    The beauty of Conger Lake is reason enough to stop by. This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Animas River, and why not camp at Mom and Pop RV Park if you're here at Conger Lake. This lake is one of the great places here in the Mesa Verde. Conger Lake gets very little rain; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and June on the other hand is the driest.
Camping is available at River Grove RV Park, and Conger
 
   Mesa is an out of the ordinary place to have a look at while at Conger Lake. If you need a place to stay Farmington Travelodge is a good choice; do explore Little Barker Arroyo since you're here at Conger Lake. Now, you may imagine that's a load but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here at Conger Lake. During your visit to Conger Lake you'll meet some folks from Farmington for sure, and a lake nearby is East Lake.
Be careful coming to the Mesa Verde,
 
               you might not ever wanna return back home again. A good spot near Conger Lake is Coalbank Canyon, and get drenched paddling on San Juan River. The warmest time of the year at Conger Lake comes with high temperatures in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are usually in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Conger Lake. This lake is so wonderful. While you're here at Conger Lake you can take a hike along the Wheeler Trail; the snow is great at Hesperus Ski Center.
Yeah, come up here to the Mesa Verde for a delightful time. Barrel Spring is an inspiring place to check out while you're here, and Conger Lake is not the only site nearby, Meadows Reservoir is a nearby lake. Dry warm beds await you at SUPER 8 MOTEL - FARMINGTON EAST.

Mormon Reservoir

The Mormon Reservoir is located on Hay gulch stream before it flows into La Plata River. In the late 1920's the Mormon Church in Utah paid to have the damn across Hay Gulch constructed for the Mormon village of Red Mesa. Water is stored in the reservoir until it is needed for farmers at Red Mesa. The water is released into the La Plata River and is measured for agricultural purposes during the drier part of the summer. Young men from Red Mesa built frame buildings on the rocky and wooded west hillside going into Hay Gulch. Until the damn was completed the workers stayed in these dwellings. All of the work on the earthen damn was done by hand and horse drawn equipment. Dynamite was used to blast boulders used on the damn to hold the water in place until needed. The impounded water becomes undrinkable by early summer when it has a strong odor. Water dogs (salamanders) and tadpoles become prolific as the summer advances.
