Camping at Kaufman Campgrounds is always a good experience, and if you're going to from New York-Newark-Edison, you won't be the only one. For the duration of the summertime, highs regularly are in the 80's at Weequahic Lake, and throughout the night it cools down to the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Weequahic Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Newark Airport West. Lakes?
Sure, Cable Lake is around here. Everybody nearby loves skiing at Sterling Forest.
Not far from Weequahic Lake, you'll come across Hendricks Pond which is a wonderful lake, and a tour to Gateway National Recreation Area is recommended. Hilton Newark Airport is a perfect place to get some rest; if you came to camp Bryn Mawr Camp is a good spot to do that. Weequahic Lake usually gets a large amount of precipitation; of all the months in a year May is the one with

the most rain while February is usually the driest month.
That right there is plenty already, but it goes on; Weequahic Lake has it all. If you don’t have a problem getting soaked, you can always go whitewater paddling on Rockaway River, and Weequahic Park Golf Course is a pleasant golf course nearby.

Lake Lefferts
15 miles away
I live on this lake, I'm 14 and every summer I have the most wonderful time on floating docks with my friends and waking up and kayaking with my little sister....I remember swiming here when I was young. A big different from the creek under the parkway bridge....I remember back in the 50's I would go past the lake and see kid's swing from a tree on a rope, and then let go and dive in the water. I was so jealous, but I had Cliffwood....

Zabriskies Pond
15 miles away
You can fish on this lake, not boats of any sort....

Bee Meadow Pond
15 miles away
Beautiful scenery. A trail surrounding the second and 3rd ponds makes for a nice walk although a little overgrown in places. Fishing has been slow to recover from the fishkill in 2001 when fertilizer chemicals built up on the deep bottom mixed with the pondwater creating toxic conditions for the fish. It is slowly improving with the bass and pickerel that have survived are replenishing the fish population. I've caught some 4 to 6 pound bass in recent years so they must have been around before and survived the fishkill which is good news. The Pond is stocked with trout annually, but I can't see them lasting longer than a couple of weeks due to the warm and stagnant waters. Spring and early summer are the best times to go before the fertilizer rich waters of pond foster abundant algae and lillypad growth. The second and third ponds are the best for bass, while catfish can be caught anywhere and thrive in the stagnant waters. I would recommend shiners for bass if you can find them anywhere, but lures work fine....

Cold Spring Lake is owned by the Salvation Army. Because of the liabilities involved, they no longer allow people to fish the lake. Boats are available for use only when a lifeguard is on duty and be prepared to say ''Grace'' before every meal. The lake is worth fishing and if you bring your wife there are a lot of other activities going on. Currently prices are $340 per person for an eight day, 7 night stay at the lodge. Meals are included in that price. You can contact them by mail at The Salvation Army, P.O.Box 132, Bloomingdale, NJ 07403. It's a pretty good deal....
