Get dripping wet paddling on Pequannock River, and on a wonderful day you can take a hike along the Cannonball Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Some of the water nearby flows, like Matthews Brook; a fine place to camp here at Matthews Lake is Camp Ocawasin Lodge. La Quinta Inn and Suites Wayne is a pleasant place to get some       rest; nearby you hit upon the Pine Meadow Trail which is a splendid hiking trail. Matthews Lake is a quite wet place commonly with a great deal of rainfall; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain; the driest of the months is February. This lake is so wonderful. All our national parks are great sites to check out, and Gateway National Recreation Area is no exception; the skiing at Mt. Peter is perfect. Just can't get enough of Matthews                  Lake. Lakes? Sure, Gordon Lakes is in close proximity; a forest close by is Norvin Green State Forest. But wait, there's more to do near Matthews Lake. Float down the rapids of Rockaway River in a kayak, and a round of golf at nearby Sunset Valley Golf Course is a great way to kill some time. There are other locations here than Matthews Lake, for example Shady Lake, and why not camp at Motor Sports Marina and Campground while you're here at Matthews Lake. Torne Mountain can be spotted from Matthews Lake, and a pleasant close by hotel is Best Western Regency House Hotel. All through the warm months at Matthews Lake temperatures are mostly in the 80's with night lows in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Matthews Lake sink into the 10's.
