A nice place to camp here at Lake Montowac is Camp Horizons, and the Cannonball Trail is a nice hiking trail nearby. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always check out nearby Lake Valhalla. This lake is so wonderful. On a wonderful day you get a view of Towackhow Mountain from Lake Montowac, and Lake Montowac is delightful enough to spend more than a day at, Brookwood Swim and Tennis Club is a delightful local       campground. Mountain Creek is a very popular ski area around here, and Sunset Valley Golf Course is a golf course close by. If you come at the right time of year, Pequannock River offers some splendid whitewater, and if you need a place to stay Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Parsippany,Nj is a nice choice. So much amusing stuff right next door to Lake Montowac, just remarkable. If time allows, Gateway National Recreation Area is a national park worth a visit;                  after a long day outdoors Howard Johnson Express Inn is a perfect place to spend a night or two. Through the summer at Lake Montowac temperatures are frequently in the 80's. Summer night lows fall down to the 50's. Highs all through the winter are generally in the 30's; nighttime lows at Lake Montowac during the wintertime frequently descend into the 10's. This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Rockaway River, and Hidden Valley has good slopes and a friendly staff. All the water falling down from the sky makes Lake Montowac a wet place; the month with most of the rain is August while February is frequently the driest month.
