Mary Scott:
I grew up on Iona Lake Road in the 60s.  Many fond memories of ice skating on Iona Lake.  There would usually be a bon fire built on the beach.  Ahh...those were the days!

Malaga Lake
Malaga is a great lake for catching fish, however there are alot of stumps which makes it harder for larger boats. Also the vegetation is very bad in mid season so you have to use a weedless setup....

Wilson Lake
The memories at this lake as a child, are all good ones. A time to spends hours and hours with your family with little money and to much fun for all.  I remember swimming for hours (in the ice tea water--HA), boats you would ride until your feet and legs couldn't do it anymore) and the store with the screen (sqeeky) door. Life was great. There are so many good memories at this lake. It is all good...

Palatine Lake
I am 61 yrs old, and our family rented a cabin at Palatine Lake for 2 weeks during the summer from 1957-1962. Great times for a young boy .... made lots of friends there over the years! I remember the owner's (Ben Wagner) house at the South end of the lake, and you'd often see him walking around (sometimes with his son, Bud) checking out the crowds or trouble-shooting. I remember the store (pavilion) at the center of the park where you could buy hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, snacks, etc. .... and don't forget hours in front of the pin ball machines! They had a nice beach with a diving dock, sliding board, and lifeguard on duty. In the evening, the kids would meet at the playground, and somebody always brought a radio. We'd stay there until the mosquitos got unbearable, then go home to bed & do it all over again the next day! Also remember playing horseshoes with the adults, and beating most of them. Wonder where I can get some info. (history) or photos of the old public park? I miss you, Palatine Lake!!...

Kandle Lake
I went to Kandle Lake for the first time this past weekend with my daughters (3 and 5), as guests of another family. We all had a blast. The location was very clean, the lake was full of fun activities, had a sectioned off part for the little kids, two different height diving boards, rope swing, water slide, fountains, etc. We also went in the pool (including the separate kiddie pool). After one visit, I'm planning on buying a membership for next summer, and possibly considering buying a trailer. And this was my first time at a campground!...

New Brooklyn Lake
11 miles away
Horrible! Needs to be renamed the New Brooklyn Swamp. Having a ''canoe launch'' is usually indicative of a nice place to paddle - this place was just plain nasty. The tree debris in the water was unbelievable and blocked off any viable path. Don't waste your time trying to portage over them either...once you scramble over & under all the debris, going left is blocked by a huge beaver dam and the other way becomes too shallow and is so packed by tree and encroaching shoreline you can't get through. What a disappointment...I thought we found a nice little lake close to home for a nice after work paddle......

Cooper River Lake

Nice, quiet lake with public launch off of N. Park Drive. Lower portion of the lake is often used by sailboats and crew boats, but the upper portion is generally quiet & makes for a nice paddle...
