If you come at the right time of year, Rockaway River offers some splendid whitewater, and if you have the time, Gateway National Recreation Area is a national park worth taking a look at. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Echo Lake. Summer night lows drop down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's while the cold winter       nights at Echo Lake are in the 10's. Gotta ski! Sterling Forest is a brilliant location to do that, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always stop by nearby Briant Pond. There are some tremendous whitewater spots on Pequannock River, and a fine close by hotel is Holiday Inn Springfield,Nj. Camp Horizons is a splendid local campground; Galloping Hill Golf Course is a golf course close by. If you need a place to stay Best Western Westfield                  Inn is a great choice. This lake is so wonderful. Lakes? Sure, Shackamaxon Lake is in the vicinity, and why not camp at Bryn Mawr Camp while you're here at Echo Lake.
