    If you are in this part of New Jersey make sure to pay a visit to Cable Lake. Cable Lake gets a large amount of water; the month with most of the rain is May, and the driest of the months is February. Camping is available at Bryn Mawr Camp; dry warm beds await you at Courtyard by Marriott West Orange. Take a hike on the Cannonball Trail; there are other spots here than Cable Lake, for example Lake Vincent.
Pequannock River is a pleasant whitewater spot
 
   close to Cable Lake. This lake is so wonderful. It's a splendid idea to explore Turtle Brook, it's next to Cable Lake; a pleasant location for whitewater paddling is Rockaway River. Summertime highs at Cable Lake usually tend to be in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. Through the winter highs are ordinarily in the 30's with temperatures at Cable Lake dipping down into the 10's throughout winter nights.
Man, is there plenty of entertaining
 
               things to do near Cable Lake. A pleasant site to camp here at Cable Lake is Camp Horizons, and golf can be played at Essex County Francis A Byrne Golf Course. If you haven’t been to Gateway National Recreation Area, you must schedule some time for it while you're here, and you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Sterling Forest while you're here. This lake is so wonderful. After a long day outdoors Best Western Turtle Brook Inn is a glorious place to spend a night or two. Lakes? Sure, Orange Reservoir is nearby.
Why not stop by Orange Reservoir Dam while you're here, and Mayapple Hill is a peak you can make out from Cable Lake.
