The Cannonball Trail offers hiking at its best, and Gateway National Recreation Area is a very good site to stop at. Why not take a look at Bear Swamp Lake Dam Two while you're here, and hey, Apshawa Brook is a nice local stream.

This lake is so wonderful. Bear Swamp Lake is right by the Kakiat Trail; not far from Bear Swamp Lake you'll stumble on Bogues Pond which is a pretty lake. This
lake is so wonderful. If the weather is wonderful, you get a fine view of Torne Mountain from Bear Swamp Lake, and Norvin Green State Forest is worth checking out. If you come at the right time of year, Pequannock River offers some
brilliant whitewater; Motor Sports Marina and Campground is a great campground here.
Hiking along the Pine Meadow Trail is nice fun, and the snow is splendid at Mt. Peter. And if you're still looking for more outdoors fun stuff
just keep reading. A fine nearby hotel is Roserne Motor Lodge, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Hidden Valley. Bear Swamp Lake regularly gets lots of rain; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is February.
