Do stop by Spot Meadow Pond while you're in this part of New Hampshire. This lake is so wonderful. Keene Super 8 Motel is a pleasant site to get some rest, and a lake nearby is Ashuelot River Reservoir. At Spot Meadow Pond through the summer months highs are in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's; during the dark hours in the winter at Spot Meadow Pond temperatures

August is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is February. If you came for an overnight stay Swanzey Lake Camping Area is a splendid location to camp, and the summit of Gardiner Mountain can be made
out from Spot Meadow Pond.
Very great water scenery is available at Forest Lake Dam close to Spot Meadow Pond; there is a great hiking trail close by called the Sunset Trail. There are some delightful whitewater spots on Minnewawa
River, and Pine Grove Spring Country Club is a tremendous golf course close by. There's just no way anyone can get bored here at Spot Meadow Pond. Near Spot Meadow Pond you come across the Marlboro Trail which is a good hiking trail.
This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Ashuelot River, and you'll meet a lot of folks from Keene here. Rixford Brook is a perfect location to take a look at; Forest Lake is a nearby lake that you could check out.

If you go to Indian Pond in June, your likely to see it surrounded by the pink flowers of Mountain Laurel. It's very pretty. Mine Ledge to the West and East Hill to the East. It's a rugged hike up Mine Ledge,and a quarter mile more to a spectacular seventy foot ledge dropoff. Great views to the south of the Connecticut River, meandering southward. This is one of my favorite places ever.... |
Barton Cove Campground

I have been going there for over 20 years. It is a great place to take a family and if you are lucky, you will get to see the bald eagles (I actually got to see their first flight)....Lovely campground with huge, clean wooded tent sites. Some sites overlook the Connecticut River, and a few offer access to a swimming or fishing beach. There are some high cliffs on the river side of the campground, partly blocked with post and rail fencing. Small children may not respect the fences, so that should be considered when families with kids choose their site. Overall very enjoyable, and I look forward to returning soon.... |
