tremendous place to camp. This lake is so wonderful. Get your heart beating on the great whitewater of Piscataquog River; from Souhegan River Reservoir you acquire a fine panorama of Bumbo Hill. You'll meet a lot of folks from Manchester-Nashua
here, and on a good day you can take a hike along the Old Country Road. What would winter be without some skiing at Pats Peak, and close by you find the Catamount Trail which is a magnificent hiking trail. The high level of rain
makes Souhegan River Reservoir a reasonably wet spot; the month of November is the wettest with most of the rain; September is when it's the driest. The slopes of McIntyre are so inviting noone can resist, and needless to say, this
is a nice area for people who like lakes, Duck Pond is a lake close at hand. The Broken Boulder Smith Pond Trail is a great hiking trail near Souhegan River Reservoir. Comfort Inn Merrimack is a nice place to get some rest, and why not a little side journey to Baboosic Brook.

Locust Pond
 | 1 PHOTO Locust Pond is a lake that was formed in 1954 by the creation of the Locust Pond Dam on Locust Brook, which flows from the Locust Pond to the larger Merrimack River. Locust Pond is considered a lake because Mass Regs (310 CMR 10.04) state that a lake is ?any open body of fresh water with a surface area of ten acres or more, and shall include great ponds. The site is bordered by Locust Avenue and light residential development to the northwest, and Route 3 to the southwest. The other half of the perimeter is bordered by dense development. The pond is mostly open water with no emergent marsh development. The upland is all forested. The habitat quality of this site is limited by the development surrounding it, however, it should provide at least transient habitat for aquatic mammals such as beaver, otter, and mink, and many of the upland mammals and migratory songbirds of forested habitats.... |
