You'll meet a lot of folks from Manchester-Nashua here, and Horns Pond is a nearby lake that you could stop at. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors amusing things the area right next door to Hoods Pond has to offer. Skiing at Bradford is one of those things you just should do. If you come at the right time of year, Merrimack River offers some delightful whitewater; getting to Shields Brook from Hoods Pond is trouble-free. This lake is so wonderful.

Hiking is a popular thing to do around Hoods Pond; Broken Boulder Smith Pond Trail is a nice local trail, and after a long day outdoors Best Western Executive Court Inn & Conf. Locust Pond
 | 12 miles away 1 PHOTO Locust Pond is a lake that was formed in 1954 by the creation of the Locust Pond Dam on Locust Brook, which flows from the Locust Pond to the larger Merrimack River. Locust Pond is considered a lake because Mass Regs (310 CMR 10.04) state that a lake is ?any open body of fresh water with a surface area of ten acres or more, and shall include great ponds. The site is bordered by Locust Avenue and light residential development to the northwest, and Route 3 to the southwest. The other half of the perimeter is bordered by dense development. The pond is mostly open water with no emergent marsh development. The upland is all forested. The habitat quality of this site is limited by the development surrounding it, however, it should provide at least transient habitat for aquatic mammals such as beaver, otter, and mink, and many of the upland mammals and migratory songbirds of forested habitats.... |

Lake Cochichewick
 | 18 miles away Lake Cochichewick formerly known as Great Pond, is located near the inersections of rt 125 and Great Pond Road in North Andover MA. The lake is a little over 200 acres and long and narrow but widens quite a bit in the middle. The average depth near in the midde is about 40ft however the lake can reach depths of up to 60ft. The lake is a protected reservoir so fishing and boating are by town permit only. Swimming and gas moters are prohibited. Large and small mouth bass are in decent numbers as well as perch, pickerel, sunfish, also there is Northern Pike around but few have hooked up one in the summer season. Mercury level are fairly high so it is recomended to limit the consumption of fish to 1 meal a month. Most of the locals you will meet on the lake are all artificial bait, catch and release fisherman.... |
