On a pleasant day at Garfield Pond you can take a hike along the Pumpelly Trail, and Thorndike Pond Dam is a striking place, certainly worth a visit. If you don't mind getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Contoocook River, and going for a hike along the Parker                  Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. All through the summertime at Garfield Pond temperatures are usually in the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's generally in the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Garfield Pond are in the 0's. What a spot this is for outdoors folks. Whitewater paddling is great on Contoocook River - North Branch, and camping at Monadnock State Park Campground is always a pleasant experience. This lake is so wonderful. The best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of close by Wachusett Mountain, and camping is available at Emerald Acres. After a long day outdoors Colonial Hotel is a magnificent site to spend a night or two, and it's a perfect idea to stop at Frost Brook.
