A great location to camp here at O'Kief Reservoir is Wood Lake City Park Campground. Lakes? Sure, Swan Lake is around here. O'Kief Reservoir gets very little rainfall; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain while January is frequently the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. Going for a hike along the Smith Falls Trails will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always take
a look at close by Leach Lake. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to O'Kief Reservoir. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to O'Kief Reservoir.
Why not camp at Conners Campground while you're here at O'Kief Reservoir; dry warm beds await you at Trade Winds Lodge. This location is excellent, just look at all the cool

things to do right next door to O'Kief Reservoir. If you come at the right time of year, Berry Bridge Creek offers some glorious whitewater. If the weather is great here at O'Kief Reservoir, you can go for a hike along the North River Trail, and O'Kief Dam is a location that is in the neighborhood of O'Kief Reservoir.

We've been camping out and tubing out of the Rock Barn outfitters for the last 5 years and I can tell you its a perfect getaway.. If your looking for a location where you can ''rough it'' for a couple days and have a great time this is the place for you... (However they do have 2 showers for use if you have some in your camp that need them). Its a little bit on the outside of the rest of the outfitters in the area so you are able to stay away from the cluster of boy scout/girl scout/ randoms a little bit.. (If you want the outfitters to hold your hand the whole time your there than this isn't the place for you... Very very nice people, but they give you your space..) If you plan on Hiking the area around Smith Falls is beautiful and there are also areas inside the National Park that are very beautiful as well... Keep in mind cell phones will probably not work once you get into the bottom near the river at any of the campsites from any of the outfitters so make sure your whole party knows how to get there before hand......

Niobrara National Scenic River

We are interested in canoeing the Niobrara River east of Valentine  to Niobrara - were wondering the condition of the river during late July and early August - also the mapping of possible dams, etc.  Thank you...
