All through the summer at Hoatson Reservoir temperatures are generally in the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Hoatson Reservoir. Stay the night at Spotted Tail Campground, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Hoatson Reservoir; Roberts Trail is a splendid local trail. Super 8 Motel - Chadron       is a fine place to get some rest, and there's nice hiking along the Pine Ridge Trail. Red Cloud Campground is a great campground here, and don't leave Hoatson Reservoir without first going for a hike along the Chadron Trails. Hoatson Reservoir is generally a pretty dehydrated location; during May this area sees the most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month.
